Considered the best hope for slowing the pharmacological aging process, rapamycin is an immunosuppressant given to organ transplant patients. It inhibits the activity of one of our proteins. The intracellular protein Rapamycin was isolated in 1972 from bacteria found on Easter Island, so for years the drug was little known.
