Russian troops are now advancing on the capital from the west and the ISW estimates that the closest of those troops are about 65km (40 miles) from the centre of Kyiv. They have also been trying to advance on Chernihiv, to the northeast of Kyiv, but have faced strong resistance and the city remains in Ukrainian hands.
